A Look Into Catholic Issues
Catholics have suffered numerous critics and negative commentary over the years. This has been so due to the influx of information concerning the religion. The information that has been availed to the people is not exactly reliable since many of sources are not trustworthy. This has made it extremely difficult for leaders of the catholic faith to have a say on important issue perturbing the community. Several catholic issues have been clarified upon below.
Modern civilization has brought forth several issues that are quite challenging to the community. Things such as advancement in technology and also the changing dynamics are very sensitive issues that have to be dealt with carefully. Religion has been under attack and as an effect the number of religious leaders has greatly been on the decline. This trend especially took its toll in the 1980s. In US, a shortage in the priests has been experienced.
Owing to the above issue, American faithful had their own opinions, though it was not what the Vatican wanted to hear. A survey that was conducted by the American Press Poll showed that most Catholics favored appointment of female priests, and favored the opinion that policies should be changed to allow priests to marry.
The Catholic has for years swept most of the sexual misconducts done by its priests under the mat. The irresponsible actions performed by the priests have peaked new heights in recent years. The church has been criticized for its attempts to cover up such vices. It has been noted to protect the priests, silence the victims or transferring the alleged priests. Faithful are calling on more tough measures to be implemented to see that justice is given to the victims.
Among the many developing issues that have taunted this religion is that of homosexuality. For so long the church has condemned this behavior publicly. Recent research however shows that religious leaders have embraced the idea and are advocating for the gays to abstain like other people. This is after the clergy was hit by several scandalous accusations of homosexual tendencies.
The late pope john Paul was a very shrewd leader who stuck to his guns. One of the things that he passionately spoke against was communism. This leader never once lost his firm on the topic. He also on several occasions made a stand against the use of birth control procedures and declared it unacceptable for the faithful.
Some few issues have led to a large cultural gap between the Vatican and US Catholic Church. The Vatican has remained staunchly opposed to ordination of women while a huge number of Americans seem to support the idea or ordaining women. A large percentage of a survey conducted responded that women need to be offered rights to join priesthood.
The thought of serving a vengeful supreme has disturbed the minds of very many believers. This is especially when it comes to the case of fornication. Many preachers dealing with sexual relations out of marriage use threats of a vengeful god to sway the masses. The faithful reproached this issue asking that it is looked at from the point of honorary behavior, humanity and good character as opposed to the use of threats.
