3 Sources Of Subsurface Water Contamination You Didn't Know About
I grew up living outside of town without own well supplying water to the house. Overall, it was convenient for my family and I don't recall there every being any issues. However, if you are planning on installing a well on your property there are a few things to think about it. Here are some pros and cons to factor into your decision.
Money-You will find that although drilling your own well initially has higher costs over the lifetime of the well you will end up saving money. There will no longer be a bill every month for water. You have access to as much water as you want for free. There are also other financial benefits such as tax deductions for owning a well. Make sure to check with your local and state laws on any changes you can anticipate before you start digging.
Worse still, if that ground water should find its way to a river, it can spread over long distances. The influence can spread for miles, depending on how many chemicals the water brought down through the soil. When the whole area is contaminated, it's hard to bring up fresh water for plant or human use in the future. It will be dirty for a long period of time.
Second, there are a number of point sources of contamination that are building up around the world. A point source is an individual instance of direct contamination to the soil. They can include a damaged and leaking septic or gasoline tank. These tanks are often carrying large amounts of waste or gasoline and can do quite a bit of damage in one area.
Initial Costs-Depending on the system that you choose the initial cost can actually be quite high making it take longer to cover the costs of your investment and make it worth the time. Beyond the hardware and time that you will be spending you will also need an expert come over for groundwater mapping so you know the best location to place the well.
The thermostat also measures the current heat of the water. The heating mechanism will stay on until the water reaches the set level. The pipe entering and existing in the water heater is an elongated U-shape. As the water heats up it will naturally raise to the top of the tank above the colder, denser water. This principle of heat rising is the base principle of how the heater works and it is how the cold water and hot water are separated. As the water heats up it continues up the water heater eventually reaching the heat-out pipe on top of the tank (these pipes should be marked so you don't accidentally burn yourself). The water leaving the water heater through this pipe is the hottest the water in the tank will ever be.
Reliance on Electricity-Most water wells will work on electricity (although you can add hand pumps) and if your electricity ever goes out, there is a black out, or the system goes out you can find yourself with just the water that you have left in your tank. Ways to diminish this risk include having your own backup generator or having an excess store of water to be used in emergencies.
