Sherwood Valves Are A Benchmark Of Reliability

by Tamra Ferrell

A valve is an essential component that manages the fuel to air ratio inside the cylinders of a car during ignition. There are characteristically two main reasons why any person could end up being faced with the task of having to adjust or even replace these components; firstly if they end up being damaged and secondly where they have perished. In both of these instances Sherwood Valves offer everything one will need.

Normally sealed units know as a "sleeves" house a single valve. These seals are designed to protect and prevent the engine from sucking oil into these inner chambers. However, as these rubber seals do perish after some time, one will need to have them replaced; there will be signs indicative of this.

If a vehicle emits smoke that has a blue color to it, on start up after standing overnight; is one sign. This is indicative of the seals pulling away, leaving an opening. This occurs when oil that might be lying on the top of the engine is sucked through these gaps when the ignition is turned, causing the smoke plumes.

Another obvious sign is if driving in erratic city traffic, where one continually stops and starts; the vehicle expels smoke. Throttles are closed off while idling, which in turn works to build up a contained vacuum within the engine; oil will settle on the cover of the engine during this period, which in turn is forced into the engine on acceleration. Thankfully though, these smoke emissions will cease once normal cruising speeds are obtained.

A similar occurrence is found on re-engagement of the accelerator after descending a steep hill. The resulting forward tilt on the vehicle leaves oil residue on the cover at the front section of the engine. This once again is burnt up when acceleration occurs; leaving dark grey plumes of smoke behind which will last for a much further distance but will dissipate eventually.

If one finds that they constantly need to add oil, then this will also indicate faulty valve systems. Any visible oil leaks will be a sure sign of this. Car maintenance is vitally important; regularly checking oil levels and more importantly having the car serviced will prevent any serious damage from occurring.

Excessive or continuous smoking from the exhaust is quite serious as either piston rings or the valve guides may be in need of repair. These smoke signs should not be ignored as if left it may damage the engine. But if for instance a Cam belt breaks or slips it will cause excessive and instant damage with no pre-warnings; bending these vital valves and resulting in huge costs.

If at all in doubt; one can go online and get valuable information. Another feasible option would be to simply have it checked out by a vehicle mechanic. Regardless of where one takes the car for repairs; insist on only having Sherwood valves and products installed.
